A reduction in the confidence of landlords has been reported for the first time in almost two years, it has been revealed.
The National Landlords Association (NLA) Landlords' Optimism Index second quarter results have been published today (1 September), and show that confidence has dropped from 51 to 47.
A total of 54% of those questioned rate their prospects as good or very good, which is down from the three-month period finding of 57%.
The proposed increase in capital gains tax is one thing many proprietors seem to think will harm them, with 40% of this opinion.
Chris Norris, policy manager of the NLA, noted that talk of a double-dip recession has not eased the fears of many.
He added that cuts to Local Housing Allowance may leave tenants "struggling to pay their rent", which will have a negative impact on landlords.
David Kern, chief economist at the British Chambers of Commerce, recently observed that the UK is still facing economic challenges.
